Currango

In early January we met my parents and some friends at the Currango homestead. Currango is the oldest continually occupied property in the Kosciuszko National Park. There are a number of cottages that you can stay is as well as the actual homestead itself.

A while back, NPWS spent some money renovating the facilities. The buildings offer an amazing insight into how the pioneering mountain people of Australia lived.






We had an amazing dinner cooked by the caretakers followed by some beverages and stories out on the veranda.

The wood fire stove our delicious dinner was cooked on.




We were staying in Daffodil Cottage, a beautiful little cottage that was some sort of workers quarters. The cottage has an original bush shower which required a bucket full of hot water and a bucket full of bravery to take on.

There are heaps of kangaroos that hang around the cottages, many had joeys. We noticed one that was distinctively red, looks like mum was hanging out with some wallabies.




The drive back to the highway was pretty cool. We encountered an apparently lost joey, brumbies and fog. Dads x-trail was also looking pretty good with a bit of dirt on it.










All in all, it was a fun little trip and an interesting insight into past times.
